STUDENT NEWS

Dubuque is doing an All Community Reads Book.  It’s called Picking Cotton by Jennifer Thompson-Cannino and Ronald Cotton.  Stop by the library or any Hy Vee to grab your book and join in the community discussion.  The authors will also be in town on November 5th to discuss the book! 


Are you still looking to join Battle of the Books??  We are looking for three more people to join a team.  Stop by the library for more information. 

The Lost and Found has many items that need to be claimed, from clothing to water bottles.  Stop by the Intervention Room to claim your lost those items.


ACTIVITIES

There will be a men’s swimming informational meeting in Coach Huff’s room, B142, at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, October 23.  All returning and interested new swimmers should plan to attend.  You will receive a practice schedule and information about practice locations for the beginning of the season.  If you are unable to attend but are still interested in swimming, please talk to Coach Huff as soon as possible.

GIRLS' CROSS-COUNTRY

The #2 State-Ranked Rams won their 5th consecutive meet as they defended their MVC Divisional Title in style.  Lillian Schmidt surged to the front of the race early on and broke the tape as meet champion; by doing so, Lily was named MVC Athlete of the Year.  Teammate Claire Edmondson followed close behind as meet runner-up, and Izzy Gorton ran a lifetime best race to finish 4th.  Lily, Claire, and Izzy were all named 1st Team All-MVC.  Kate Miron (11th) and Lucy Tompkins-Garoutte (14th) raced to 2nd Team All-MVC Honors, and Grace Ries (15th) and Josie Stackis (20th) earned Honorable Mention All-MVC.  Elyza Hoffman (23rd) finished just outside of all conference honors.  

The Frosh/Soph Rams finished second, and were led by the excellent performances of Elise Hallstoos (5th), Caylie Kosanke (7th), Julianne Caceres (9th), and Lily Balayti (10th).  

The Junior Varsity Rams were also meet runners-up behind the stellar top-10 performances of Lucia Nelson (3rd), Eva Wood (5th), Kes Whalen (8th), and Emma Loney (10th).  

Coaches Fischer and Weber would like to send a special shout-out to our Seniors who raced for the final time as Rams last night.  Christine Benedict, Kes Whalen, Mattie Sheckles:  Thank you for racing with heart and being such wonderful people.
  
Students – it’s NOW time to sign up for WINTER SPORTS!!!!  Even if you are currently in a sport and are going to be doing a winter sport – you need to sign up now!!  Come to the Activities Office to make sure you have all of the required paperwork needed to sign up.  Don’t wait until the last day!  The following sports start on November 11th – Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Bowling, and Men’s Swimming.  The following sports start on November 18th – Men’s Basketball, Wrestling, and Winter Cheerleading (yes, cheerleaders you need to let us know if you’re switching to winter cheer!!).

COUNSELORS OFFICE

Juniors & Seniors:  The School Counseling Office will be visiting Kirkwood Community College on November 7th, grab a permission slip in the Counseling Office if interested.
