STUDENT NEWS

Congratulations to all of the Honor Band Students selected to represent DSHS this year at the Loras, Drake, Iowa State University, University of Northern Iowa, The University of Wisconsin at Platteville and the University of Iowa Honor Bands.  Your hard work is very much appreciated.  Students include: Anna Brondyke, Neil Butler, Jamal Cheatham, Olivia Cowart, Calvin Davis, Harrison Dement Graham, Alexis Doremus, Joshua Husemann, Jackson Kates, Chuck Klapatauskas, Griffin Koehler, Max Kues, Emily Lemire, Matt Lemire, David Miner, Emily Tigges, Jackson Trotman, Jonathan Schultz, Adam Viner, and Ryan Vrotsos.  A very special congratulation goes out to Alexis Doremus on her first place finish at the University of Northern Iowa Concerto Competition.  She won the competition and has been awarded a $6,000 Scholarship to continue her studies at UNI.  Way to be Lexi!  Congratulations to all of the honor band members on outstanding work and good luck in your future endeavors.

LOST and FOUND:  Please check the Lost and Found items before school Tuesday and Wednesday by Nora Gym and the Commons area for items you still are missing. 

Wow Ram Fans Ram Wrestling tied a record for qualifying the most wrestlers for the state meet.  This Saturday at Nora Gym 5 wrestlers punch their ticket;

Do you like science? Do you like to do labs? Are you competitive? If so you should consider joining Dubuque Senior’s Chemistry Olympics club. See Mr. Gates in room B242 to express your interest and to get more information.”

Upper Room would like to invite all students to come find how valuable they really are.  A guest speaker will be coming February 22nd to talk about each person’s value.  Come after school on February 22nd at 2:30 to B141 (Mr. Hansen’s Room). 

Staff and Students:  The yellow recycling bins in the classrooms are just for paper, plastic, and cardboard.  The RAM recyclers are finding a lot of other garbage in the bins like tissues, food, paper towels, and gum.  Please be respective and throw these items in the garbage.

Mark your calendars!  The Snowcoming dance is right around the corner!   The dance will be on February 24 from 7-10p.m.  Tickets will begin selling on the 19th and will be $5 before, $10 at the door.  Guest tickets can be purchased for $10 from February 19 to Wednesday, the 21st. 


Snowcoming week is ONE WEEK AWAY, so it’s time to start planning your outfits:

Monday is meme Day, so dress up as our favorite meme!

Tuesday will be Team Day, wear your college apparel or your favorite sport team apparel!

Wednesday is Wannabe, so dress up as your dream job or your future plan!

Thursday is Throwback Thursday!  Pull out your old clothes for a decades day!

And finally, Friday will be Spirit Day, show your RAM pride with red and blue!


COUNSELORS OFFICE

Students, did you know the Academic Resource Center is now open? Tutoring is now available from 7 am to 3 pm Monday thru Thursday in A318. See your teachers for the full schedule of availability.

New part-time employment opportunities- Little Treasures Preschool is hiring- no weekends or night hours.  Sunset Park Place is hiring for Dietary Aides – great hours.  Grand Harbor is hiring for all positions.  If interested stop in Guidance. 

Attention SENIORS:

This year’s Senior High Awards Assembly will be on Monday May 14th, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Senior High Auditorium.  We have a variety of scholarships (Memorial, Community/School, and Specific College Sponsored) that are available for our Senior High graduating students. 

Applications are available, If you are interested in applying for these scholarship monies, please come to The School Counseling Office and give our secretary, Mrs. Pfab, your name and email address.  Mrs. Lawrence will then send you the electronic application to complete.

ACTIVITIES

Attention all athletes!  Sign up for Spring Sports is going on NOW!  If you are interested in any of the following sports, make sure you stop by the Activities Office to get signed up:  Women’s Golf, Men’s/Womens Tennis, Men’s Soccer, and Women’s Soccer.

Women’s Golf, Men’s/Women’s Tennis, and Men’s Soccer begin on March 12th, so make sure you get signed up soon!

There will be a Women’s Tennis Pre-Season meeting TOMORROW, February 13th @ 2:30 pm in Room B140.

There will be a Men’s Tennis Player/Parent Meeting on Monday, February 26th @ 6:00 pm in the LIBRARY. 

Are you interested in being a RAM CHEERLEADER?  If so, please stop by the Activities Office for some important information regarding tryouts.  There will be a Mandatory Meeting for all students interested in trying out on Thursday, March 15th.
