February 18 and 19 - Tri-State Honor Band. Musicians selected for this honor included Austin Baugh, Lily Brondyke, CJ Dahlman, Jonathan Fuller, and Jessica Larsen. Each of these musicians won their audition placement for the first chair position in their respective section - a first for DSHS. Their guest director was the acclaimed composer Samuel Hazo. The student's and their families lined up for an hour and a half while he signed autographs after the concert!

February 26 - University of Iowa Honor Band. Musicians selected for this honor included: Austin Baugh, Taylor Brandt, Sarah Compton, Catrina Foust, Jonathan Fuller, and Mikayla Wickham. Austin Baugh won his audition for the first chair position in his section. The performances also included the U. of I. Brass Quintet. They will be guest artists on April 18 at the University of Dubuque to work with the area students.

February 27/28 - Dorian Honor Band There were over 650 high school musicians involved with this event from four different states. The three festival bands included two large bands and one symphony band of the best 75 musicians. Musicians selected for this honor included: Austin Baugh, Lily Brondyke, Jon Fuller, Colin Niemer, Emily Smith, Blaine Tunnell, Mikayla Wickham. Austin Baugh, Lily Brondyke, Jonathan Fuller and Blaine Tunnell made it into the symphonic band. Austin Baugh and Lily Brondyke won their audtion placement for the principal position in their sections. The festival also included a solo competition in which over 90 students participated from the respective bands. Out of the 90 students two are selected to perform on the final concert and 8 more students receive an "honorable mention" recognition. DSHS musicians receiving the "Honorable Mention" award include Austin Baugh, Lily Brondyke, and Blaine Tunnell. DSHS trumpeter Jonathan Fuller won the finalist spot for the final performance with his performance of Bozza's Caprice.

Congratulations to all on a job very well done!!!

The DSHS Music Department will be traveling to San Antonio from March 16 through March 21 for a performance oriented tour and clinics. Venues include Dallas, Denton, the Alamo, and SeaWorld. For details please contact Bill Rowley.

ATTENTION BASKETBALL PLAYERS: The Intramural Free Throw contest will be held TODAY in the big gym right after school.

WINTER SPORTS LOCKERS: All winter athletes need to clean out their sports lockers before the end of Friday. Locker combinations will be changed this weekend. Please remove all your items from your sports lockers.

MEN’S TENNIS: All men interested in going out for tennis this year we will have a meeting Wednesday, March 9th after school in the Nora gym. If you cannot attend the meeting please see Coach Myres during the day.

SADIES WEEK: Just a reminder that Sadie Hawkin’s Dance is Saturday, March 5th. Tickets are on sale in the Business Office for $6 each. Remember to bring your Renaissance card in order to receive a discount. Be sure to sign up your guest. Pictures will start before the dance at 6:30. Glow necklaces and refreshments will also be for sale. Sadies is from 8:30 to 11:00 p.m.

TODAY: Time Travel: Wear decades clothing, a toga, or in a futuristic outfit!
Friday: Daisy Mae/Lil Abner: Country Western theme! Break out the flannel shirts, belt buckles, and cowboy boots!

TALENT SHOW:
1. The Talent Show will be held Friday, March 4th.
2. All 4th hour teachers will be getting an envelope with tickets to sell for $1 for the show.
3. Money will be collected by Student Council members (Randi Westervelt, Kat Martin, Hayley Zenner, Kat Martin, and Katie Husemann) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during 5th hour. Please keep student tickets, having them write their first and last name on the back, until the day of the show (Friday, March 4).
4. Students not wanting to go to the Talent Show will report to the cafeteria.
5. Students will be dismissed by an announcement over the PA.
6. Students will sit with their 4th hour class.

BLOOD DRIVE: Friday, March 25th:
Pick up permission slips for the blood drive in the Stuco Zone in the cafeteria.
Return the permission slips to the Stuco Zone and sign up for a time slot.
You get to get out of class, free food, and help out your community!
