PROM TICKETS: Junior/Senior Prom tickets are now on sale in the Business Office before and after school and between classes. The cost is $15 per ticket. The Dance will be held at the Grand River Center from 9:00 P.M. until midnight on Saturday, April 14, 2012. All students attending Prom will need to have a current school I.D. to enter.
FYI: The Nora Gymnasium will be closed to all students leaving the building. Please exit through the cafeteria or other supervised areas.
PENNY DRIVE: On Thursday, April 26th we will be holding our Penny Drive!!! Due to the construction happening at Dalzell, the Penny Drive assembly will be held within the school. Activities include dodge ball, 3 on 3 basketball, beanbags, tug-o-war, dunk tank, the Senior Relay and other fun activities. Tickets will be sold for $1 in the StuCo Zone, at lunch, the week of Penny Drive, April 23rd through the 26th. All proceeds from this years Penny Drive will go to the Dubuque Humane Society. FYI: The Dubuque Senior Speech Team received 16 Outstanding Performance nominations to the 2012 Individual Event All-State Festival at the University of Northern Iowa. The Dubuque Senior Varsity team also earned the E. Wayne Cooley Sweepstakes Trophy, given to the high school with the most nominations to the Festival. This marks the second consecutive year the Dubuque Senior Speech Team won the Sweepstakes Trophy. The Dubuque Senior Speech Team has now had a share or won the Sweepstakes Trophy in the last three speech competitions (2012 Individual Events, 2012 Large Group – tie, 2011 Individual Events – tie). Only other school in the history of the IHSSA has earned both the Large Group and Individual Events Sweepstakes Trophy in the same year.
The Festival is sponsored by the Iowa High School Speech Association, which is an affiliate of the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union.

FYI: The Dubuque Senior Speech Team received 16 Outstanding Performance nominations to the 2012 Individual Event All-State Festival at the University of Northern Iowa. The Dubuque Senior Varsity team also earned the E. Wayne Cooley Sweepstakes Trophy, given to the high school with the most nominations to the Festival. This marks the second consecutive year the Dubuque Senior Speech Team won the Sweepstakes Trophy. The Dubuque Senior Speech Team has now had a share or won the Sweepstakes Trophy in the last three speech competitions (2012 Individual Events, 2012 Large Group – tie, 2011 Individual Events – tie). Only other school in the history of the IHSSA has earned both the Large Group and Individual Events Sweepstakes Trophy in the same year.
The Festival is sponsored by the Iowa High School Speech Association, which is an affiliate of the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union.

CONGRATULATIONS: The DSHS Band program has more good fortune - two of our students, Jon Fuller and Colin Niemer, have been accepted into the State Honor Jazz Band! They will be featured in concert in the 85th Annual Iowa Bandmasters State Conference in May. They will be involved with rehearsals on Wednesday and Thursday, May 9 and 10. The final concert will be in the Marriot Hotel Downtown Des Moines on May 10 during the conference.

SENIORS: Tomorrow is your class picture day at 8:49 a.m. in the Nora Gym...please stop by the main office for an order form. Cost is $15.00. Forms can be turned in the day of the picture. You must bring your order envelope and payment with you to the photographer.
KEY CLUB: Key Club will meet Wednesday morning at 7:15 in Room B241 to plan our trip to District Convention as well as our semester fundraiser. Any one planning to attend the convention, please at least stop by to pick up the parent permission form ASAP. Also, I will have information about doing a fundraiser this spring.
SWIMMING PEP BUS: Interest has been expressed in taking a fan bus to Marshalltown this Saturday, February 11th for the State Swim Meet. The cost per passenger is $26.00 and this includes your ticket into the meet. If you would like to take the Pep Bus, you must have $26.00 (exactly) in an envelope with your name on it turned into the Activity Office by Noon Thursday, February 9th. To take a bus, we must have at least 40 paying passengers.

Make sure your have a current physical and you bring a practice permit to the meeting. You can get a practice permit form the activities office.

CONGRATULATIONS: Please help us recognize the great accomplishments of our jazz students. Both the "Julien Dubuque" Jazz Band and the Jack Jenney Jazz Band performed at the IHSMA State Jazz Band Festival on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Both bands performed very well and scored high in their divisions. The Julien Jazz Band scored a high Divisional II and the Jenney Jazz Band Scored a solid Divisional I across the board and received a standing ovation for their performance. Each band will be featured in concert at our New Music Concert on Sunday, February 5 in the DSHS Auditorium at 2:00pm. The concert band will also be performing featuring guest artist Dr. Richard Tirk performing Daniel Bukvich's new work "Sonata for Trumpet and Winds". Dr. Tirk is the trumpet professor at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Our concert will also debut new compositions from our own music theory students!
