The men's cross country team competed in the second annual Jim Boughton Invitational at a very wet and muddy Dubuque Soccer Complex last Thursday. In the Frosh/Soph race, the Rams finished third of eight teams, led by the top fifteen finishes of Ben Cook who finished fourth with a time of 18:36, Jonathan Schultz sixth in 19:03, Evan Willie ninth in 19:19, and Jacob Sindt who finished 12th, completing the sloppy 5k course in 19 minutes and 27 seconds.

The junior varsity finished 2nd and were led by Wes Brimeyer who won the race in a time of 18:46. Also finishing in the top twenty for the Rams were Simon Kosel who finished fifth in 19:02, Zach Hess 13th in 19:23, Greyson Kincaid 15th in 19:24, and Tatum Hallstoss 20th in 19:49.

In Varsity race, the Rams had four runners finishing in the top twenty on their way to a third place team finish. Scoring for the varsity were Jalen Hildebrand who finished 3rd in a time of 16:37, Isaiah Schaetzel 9th in 17:29, Dalton Zenner 11th in 17:35, and Will Whalen 20th in 18:10. Also competing on the varsity were Nathan Vail, Jack Fisher, and Nicholas Vail.

The Rams will next compete in the City Meet this coming Thursday at the (hopefully dryer) Soccer Complex.

Are you interested in going to the Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium in Chicago on October 4th? Mr. Kohl is now opening the trip up to students participating in a science course at Senior. You can get permission slips from Mr. Kohl in room B233.

The total cost of the trip is $75. Seats are first come first serve and filling fast so payment and permission slips need to be turned in by October 2nd. Thank You.

Our October Book Club books are in! We will be reading I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. Twins Noah and Jude share an almost telepathic bond until they are torn apart by tragedy and jealousy. This story alternates between Noah’s 13-year-old perspective of the earlier years and 16-year-old Jude telling the story of the later years. The problem keeping them from getting close again, is that each of them only has half the story. Stop by and get your copy of the book to keep!

The Discovery Club will be visiting the Maquoketa Caves State Park on Sunday, October 2 from noon to 4:30. Come along to walk the main cave and trails and slink through the smaller caves on your hands and knees. See Ms. Pfohl in B-249 or Mrs. Koch in A-226 for permission forms. Our next meeting is Thursday at 7:15 in B-249.

Are you interested in acting, singing, dancing, improv, or short film? Join the award-winning Senior High Speech Team for an introductory meeting on Wednesday September 28th at 2:30 in the Lamb-Hedeman Auditorium. Any questions see Mr. Dean in room A209 or Mr. Ernzen in room B237. See you there.
