IOWA TESTING DATES: Iowa Testing for all 10th graders will take place on Thursday, Nov 1st from 7:40 to 2:20. Students must report to their test site by 7:40 and bring a calculator and pencils with them. Students will test in the Nora Gym and the LRC. If you are NOT testing in Nora Gym, you will get a note which tells you where to go to test. Let's give it our best shot sophomores!
LRC CLOSED THIS THURSDAY: The LRC will be closed all day Thursday due to Iowa Testing.
RAM FAN BUS: There has been some interest mentioned on the idea of a FAN BUS to the State Swimming meet on Saturday. If you are interested, you MUST sign up in the Activities Office no later than Thursday at lunch. If we do NOT have a full bus, the fan bus will be canceled. Here is the information:
Cost: $21.00 per person - this includes the cost of admission
Departs: 8 am at Senior High School
When: Saturday-November 3
Arrival: 11 am in Marshalltown
Departs for home: Approx. 4 pm
Arrival in Dubuque: Approx. 7 pm
Again, the bus must be full or it will not be taken. Sign up in the Activities Office.
PROJECT KIDS: Student Council has begun planning for Project Kids. Project Kids involves 5th period classes who sponsor children from struggling families that can’t afford Christmas gifts. We provide gifts and necessities for these families. If your class didn’t receive an application form, or if you are interested in sponsoring a child individually, contact Natasha Thimmesch, Taylor Ryan, or Mrs. Wessels. Interest forms are due Monday, November 5th.
CHEERLEADING TRYOUT PRACTICE: Freshman and Sophomore “mock” cheerleading tryouts to fill positions on JV/freshman Basketball and JV wrestling will take place on November 6th and 8th from 4-6pm. Meet in the entry way by Nora Gym. Bring a plain white t-shirt. Any questions contact Coach Terri Mayberry.
BOWLING TRYOUTS: Bowling tryouts will be held on TUESDAY-Nov 6 and THURSDAY-Nov 8 at Cherry Lanes at 2:45 pm each day. Athletes MUST have all required paperwork on file with the Activities Office to participate in tryouts including a valid sports physical, concussion form, and emergency information.
REMINDER TO ALL FALL ATHLETES: Please clean out your sports lockers this week. COMBINATIONS WILL BE CHANGED BEGINNING THE FIRST OF NOVEMBER.
WINTER SPORTS CHECK-IN: Students intending to participate in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, swimming, wrestling, or bowling must check in at the Activities Office prior to the first practice. This includes all athletes who have been out for a Fall sport. Women’s basketball, men’s and women’s bowling, and men’s swimming practices begin Monday, November 5th. Men’s basketball and wrestling practices begin on Monday, November 12th.
SPANISH CLUB MEETING: The next Spanish Club meeting will be on Thursday, Nov. 1st after school from 2:30 - 3:30 in Room E43. We will be ordering Spanish Club apparel and celebrating Day of the Dead with various activities. Be sure to bring money for your t-shirts & sweatpants orders!
UPPER ROOM MEETING: We welcome Jason Fischer as our speaker on Friday at 7 am in the gym lobby. We always have food and start with a crazy game.
JOB FAIR: Sundown Mountain Resort is holding a Job Fair on Saturday, November 3rd from 9a.m. - 1p.m. They are looking to hire many part-time workers. Become part of the Sundown Crew and earn extra cash, ski free, and get discounts on merchandise. If interested check out the bulletin board by guidance or stop in guidance office.
GSA MEETING: The GSA will be meeting every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. The meetings are @ 2:20pm in room A117. Everyone is welcome. If you have any questions see Mrs. Wiederholt in room A117. The next meeting will take place Tuesday, November 6th at 2:20 p.m. in A117. We will be making a fleece blanket for Covers of Comfort.

ATTENTION SENIORS: Please remember that Jostens will be returning to school on Tuesday, October 30th to collect all graduation and cap and gown orders. Please remember that this is the only day that Jostens will be in the building for this reason. Please note that all Seniors must turn in their form on this day. All students need to fill out the cap and gown area of the order form so Jostens can fit the cap and gown by the student height and weight. Cap and gown are included in student fees but if you order anything in addition to a cap and gown, there is a $60 deposit. They accept payment by credit card, money order, cash or checks made out to Jostens.

CONGRATULATIONS: The Senior Men Placed 5th at the Iowa Cross Country State Meet and Dylan Eigenberger Becomes Fastest Ram Ever and state runner up. The Senior men's team placed 5th with a 5 man total of 1:20:16, this total ranks them as the 2nd fastest team in Senior history. The 8th ranked Rams leaped to 5th place with 5 life time best performances.

Opus 2012 Press Release: Nickie Cashdollar and Colton Mackrill, freshmen at Dubuque Senior High School, were recently selected for participation in the twenty-seventh annual Opus Honor Choir Festival. Over 3,400 students were nominated by their directors for 720 positions in the four Opus Honor Choirs. Dr. Gerald Kreitzer from Mount Mercy College will direct the 9th Grade Mixed Honor Choir. The 2012 Opus Honor Choirs will perform at 4:00 p.m. November 15th in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in the Iowa State Center in Ames. Nickie Cashdollar and Colton Mackrill are students of Mr. Chris M. Marple. The Opus Honor Choir is under the auspices of the Iowa Choral Directors Association, Inc.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, October 25th and Friday, October 26th due to Parent-Teacher conferences. Conferences will be held Tuesday, October 23rd from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, October 25th from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

ALL-STATE BAND HONORS: This year the 2012 Iowa All-State Music Festival will celebrate its 66th Anniversary. District Auditions for the 283-piece All-State Band, 204-piece All-State Orchestra and 602-member All-State Choir were held Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Storm Lake, Hampton, Manchester, Harlan, Indianola and Fairfield. Approximately 17% of the students who audition are selected for membership in the All-State ensembles. Participants will rehearse at Iowa State University in Ames in November and present the concert on November 17, 2012. Iowa Public Television will record the concert for re-broadcast.
Accepted musicians from Dubuque Senior are: Lily Brondyke, trombone; Emily Green, flute; Blaine Tunnell, trombone; Amanda Eby, violin; Bea Loewen, violin; Matt Niemer, violin; Emily Ott, violin; and Emily Shinkle, alto.
