CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations to Tina Chen and Jacob Butlett for their excellence in writing! The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, a very prestigious writing contest, has awarded Tina an honorable mention for her poetry. Jacob earned a Gold Key for his short story, Dark Malice. Jacob will continue on to the national level and compete with students from across the country.

DISCOVERY CLUB: The Discovery Club is going to Cave of the Mounds near Madison on Sunday, February 19th. The $15 trip includes a cave tour and two workshops on identifying fossils and rocks. So bring your friends and come for a rocking good time. See Mrs. Koch or Ms. Pfohl for details.

SWIMMING PEP BUS: Interest has been expressed in taking a fan bus to Marshalltown this Saturday, February 11th for the State Swim Meet. The cost per passenger is $26.00 and this includes your ticket into the meet. If you would like to take the Pep Bus, you must have $26.00 (exactly) in an envelope with your name on it turned into the Activity Office by Noon TODAY. To take a bus, we must have at least 40 paying passengers.

CONGRATULATIONS: Please help us recognize the great accomplishments of our jazz students. Both the "Julien Dubuque" Jazz Band and the Jack Jenney Jazz Band performed at the IHSMA State Jazz Band Festival on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Both bands performed very well and scored high in their divisions. The Julien Jazz Band scored a high Divisional II and the Jenney Jazz Band Scored a solid Divisional I across the board and received a standing ovation for their performance. Each band will be featured in concert at our New Music Concert on Sunday, February 5 in the DSHS Auditorium at 2:00pm. The concert band will also be performing featuring guest artist Dr. Richard Tirk performing Daniel Bukvich's new work "Sonata for Trumpet and Winds". Dr. Tirk is the trumpet professor at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Our concert will also debut new compositions from our own music theory students!

FLOWER GRAMS & IFLURTZ: Flower grams will be sold Feb 6-10. Flower grams can be purchased in the Student Council Zone for $1.00 and will be delivered to 5th hour on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14th. IFLURTZ will be sold Feb. 13-17th. IFLURTZ can be purchased for $2.00 and will be sold in the Student Council Zone during all lunches. AMC: If you are signed up to take the AMC, please report to the library during 3rd and 4th periods on Tuesday, February 7th. You will be excused from class to do this. Any questions, see Mr. Kueper
ATTENTION SENIORS: Senior Class Picture will be taken on Wed. Feb 8th at 8:40 in the Nora Gym...please stop by the main office for an order form. Cost is $15.00. Forms can be turned in the day of the picture.
